Alexis Brown Stokes earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Political Science, and Managerial Studies, cum laude, from Rice University, and her Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, where she served as president and editor-in-chief of the Harvard Journal on Legislation.

After law school, Alexis worked as a briefing attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas and then practiced law in Houston, where she focused on international arbitration and complex commercial litigation matters.  Before joining the Texas State University faculty in 2005 as Assistant Professor of Business Law, Alexis served as Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center, where she taught Class Actions.

Alexis is a member of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business and currently serves as President of the ALSB International Law Section.  At Texas State, she is proud to serve on the President’s Council for Women in Higher Education and the President’s Work-Life Advisory Council.  She is admitted to practice law in Texas and enjoys her role as the McCoy College’s pre-law advisor.  Alexis lives in Austin with her husband, who is also a lawyer, their three daughters, and their shih-tzu.
