* Dr. Chinna Natesan developed and taught one of the first undergraduate Electronic Commerce courses in the country. He has taken this early expertise and refined it for the department's current course offering in Internet Marketing. Dr. Natesan's research interests relate to issues that impact the growth of online businesses, including privacy, security, information retrieval, and electronic transactions.

This topic is important to a number of constituents, including public policy makers, tobacco manufacturers, parents, schools, health care officials and others. Dr. Smith is working with several other faculty members on grant proposals related to anti-smoking campaigns.

* Dr. Mary Ann Stutts is the recipient of many honors, including Texas States Presidential Excellence Award in Teaching and the Alumni Association's Teaching Award of Honor. One result is an opportunity for marketing students to earn a U.S. Department of Commerce training certificate through MKT 4310.

* Mrs. Vicki West's leadership as advisor to the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has resulted in national awards, student placement in top companies, investments in the community, and strong ties to the business community. Mrs. West is spearheading the effort to take Texas State students to the annual National Collegiate Sales Competition, where she believes Texas State can take top honors in a few short years. Mrs. West is a recipient of Texas State's Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching.

She is also the recipient of numerous research grants that support this important aspect of marketing and business inquiry and practice. Dr. Zank advises our American Marketing Association student chapter and was named Texas State's "Most Outstanding Faculty Advisor" in 2003 and in 2004.

Student Organizations

The Marketing Department has a tradition of  supporting student organizations that add value to students’ educational experiences through relevance and quality. We take pride in our students' personal successes and professional development.

* Our American Advertising Federation (AAF) student organization is active and successful on the national level. In AAF's National Student Advertising Competition each year, student teams from universities around the country develop professional quality advertising campaigns for a client. Past clients include Yahoo!, Frito-Lay, The New York Times, Toyota, Levi-Strauss, and others. Texas State's AAF team won 1st place at national competition in June 2005, and has advanced from district competition to national competition more than any other university. Dr. Mary Ann Stutts has built and lead this tremendously successful group.  For more information on their 2005 national win, click here.

* Our American Marketing Association (AMA) student chapter is affiliated with the largest marketing organization in the world, making it a "must" for every marketing student. Through this association, students learn more about marketing, use their leadership skills, give back to the community, and develop a stronger professional identity. Texas State's AMA group was recently named Outstanding Chapter of the Western Region in the U.S., besting 80 universities. Our AMA chapter has over 180 members, making it one of the largest chapters in the country. This group's excellent faculty advisor is Dr. Gail Zank.

* Our Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) program combines course credit with the opportunity to teach others about the free enterprise system. SIFE students develop programs and projects that teach students, businesspeople, and others about the principles of market economics, entrepreneurship, business ethics, and personal financial success. Texas State's SIFE program earned the top national honor in 2000 and continues to place in upper levels of the overall competition and special project competitions. Mrs. Vicki West is SIFE's dynamic faculty advisor.
