Texas State AMA Participates in
Ongoing National Organ Donor Awareness Project
More than 104,748 U.S. patients are currently waiting for an organ transplant and 4,000 new patients are added to the waiting list each month. Unfortunately every day, 18 people die while waiting for a transplant of a vital organ, such as a heart, liver, kidney, pancreas, lung or bone marrow. The need for organ donation has never been greater than it is now but the donor list remains low while eligible donors continue uneducated.
The Texas State American Marketing Association (AMA) Chapter is participating in the national AMA Saves Lives project along side more than 300 other AMA chapters. As a part of this project, each chapter is eligible to win a variety of categories. Examples of competition categories consist of but are not limited to Best Video, Total Number of Videos and Video Views. These short, member submitted videos are created to increase knowledge and awareness for organ donation.
Through their initiative and determination Texas State University was recently recognized for
AMA Saves Lives encourages AMA collegiate chapters around the nation to create social media campaigns and hold informative events on their campuses to increase the number of donor designations and raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funds the project thorugh coordination by the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Organ Procurement Organization and Applied PhD Research & Marketing. Texas State AMA Wins
Student Organization of the Month
Texas State American Marketing Association was chosen as the Student Organization of the Month at Texas State University for the month of December 2011. Each month the university recognizes student organizations that are consistently making a difference on the Texas State University campus and in the San Marcos community. This leadership recognition program promotes an atmosphere of appreciation and altruism for members of the Texas State student body.
The Texas State University-San Marcos American Marketing Association is an organization with the mission of advancing the practice and appreciation of marketing for students and professionals who seek to increase their knowledge and skills through national and local programming, while providing a forum for peer networking and resource development. With over 130 members AMA is currently one of the largest student organization in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State. Through coordinated efforts of general members, executive committee members, officers and faculty advisors Texas State AMA strives to excel nationally while staying committed to the community.

Texas State AMA Excels at 32st Annual AMA International Collegiate Conference
New Orleans, LA, April 11, 2010- Members of the Texas State American Marketing Association attended the 32st AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 8th- 11th. There were over 1300 attendees at this conference. The conference was designed to provide the ultimate marketing experience, which included professional guest speakers, a career fair, and networking opportunities. The American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional associations for marketers and has over 40,000 members worldwide in every area of marketing. There are over 300 student AMA chapters from schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
The Texas State AMA chapter received many accolades during the conference. This year in the awards competition Texas State was recognized as a Superior Chapter based on the submitted chapter plan and annual report. The reports are judged on professional development, communications, fundraising, and community service. This honor acknowledges Texas State as tied for second place internationally. Texas State AMA also received 2nd place in the Collegiate Case Competition. Andrew Duffy, Samantha Spillman, Rebecca Schulz, Brittaney Korus, Matt Bridger, Kelly Wyatt, Ryan Loosier, Mary Paniagua, and Felicia Bedgood were a part of the Case Team.
Texas State AMA also received 3rd place in the website competition. You may visit www.business.txstate.edu/ama to view this award winning website. The Texas State AMA chapter also received 1st and 3rd place in AMASavesLives video competition. They also received honorable mention in both the UNICEF video competition and in the UNICEF Fundraiser Competition. The Texas State AMA was recognized for having the 2nd place winner, Andrew Holiday and the 9 other semi-finalists in the 30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero Competition.
Texas State students were also asked to participate in several student led sessions. Texas State AMA’s President, Matt Bridger was a presenter in the session on “How to be an Effective Ambassador.” The Texas State chapter was represented by VP of Community Service, Jaci Johnson at the “Community Service Grant Tips” session to teach other chapters on how to get a grant. Also, VP of Fundraising, Cress Terrell was a presenter at the “Fundraising Tips Session.”

Texas State American Marketing Association (AMA) Receives a $500 Community Service Grant from American Marketing Association Foundation
San Marcos, Texas, November 30, 2009. Texas State AMA was one of five schools awarded a $500 community service grant from the American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF) in support of The Boys and Girls Club of South Central Texas’ Club Blue Program. The AMAF’s mission is to be an essential resource to nonprofits, helping them achieve greater success through effective marketing. As the nonprofit philanthropic arm of the American Marketing Association, the AMAF also champions and supports excellence in marketing and diversity in the marketing profession. There are currently over 300 AMA student chapters in the United States. The American Marketing Association is one of the world’s largest organizations for marketers.
The Texas State AMA will be using the money from this community service grant to increase awareness and involvement of The Boys and Girls Club and Club Blue Program on campus and in the local San Marcos community. Texas State AMA will be using their members’ skills and “marketing for a good cause” with the help of the AMAF Community Service Grant. Texas State AMA will sponsor a raffle in support of Boys and Girls Club of South Central Texas and Club Blue. Also, a team of Texas State AMA students will host a college day exposure event, True Life; this event will be held at Texas State in spring 2010 and bring Boys and Girls Club’s students to the university to introduce them to the university environment. Texas State American Marketing Association (AMA) Has the Most Finalists in the
“30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero” Competition.
The American Marketing Association Collegiate Chapters’ Division and the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence teamed up to bring AMA collegiate members a new competition entitled “30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero”. It was designed to provide students with a way to comfortably get their feet in the door and meet a successful entrepreneur whom they may not have previously met. This was a rare opportunity for students to go behind the scenes to get firsthand knowledge about how an entrepreneur achieved success and the lessons they have learned. The competition gave face-to-face learning experience about sales and marketing from a business leader.
30 Minutes with an Entrepreneurial Hero competition provided 28 AMA Collegiate Chapter members an opportunity to win one of 28 grants to defray expenses to attend to 2010 AMA Collegiate Conference (total prize money of $5,800). There were 112 applicants and Texas State American Marketing Association (AMA) had the most finalists! The following students from Texas State were recognized. Andrew Holliday was awarded second place and the following students were finalists: Alyssa Douglass, Kristin O’Neal, Matt Bridger, Josh Heckman, Jaci Johnson, Krystal Slater, Samantha Spillman, Matthew Kabat, and Andrea Janak.

Texas State AMA Participates in
National Organ Donor Awareness Project
More than 104,000 Americans are awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant; and with a new name added to the national organ transplant waiting list every 11 minutes, the need has never been greater. Yet just one organ donor can save up to eight lives.
The Texas State American Marketing Association (AMA) Chapter is participating in the national AMA Saves Lives project with 300 other AMA chapters. As part of this project, each chapter is creating short online videos that members can send to their family and friends to increase knowledge and awareness of the need for organ donation. Chapters will be recognized at the AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, LA in April 2010 for participation in this project and the best video entries will be played.
As part of their initiative at Texas State University the AMA Chapter will be:
