Texas State AMA Shines at 31st Annual AMA International Collegiate Conference
New Orleans, LA, March 26, 2009- Members of the Texas State American Marketing Association attended the 31st AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 26th -28th. There were over 1300 attendees at this conference. The conference was designed to provide the ultimate marketing experience, which included professional guest speakers, a career fair, and networking opportunities. The American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional associations for marketers and has over 40,000 members worldwide in every area of marketing. There are over 300 student AMA chapters from schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
The Texas State AMA chapter received many accolades during the conference. This year in the awards competition Texas State was recognized as “Distinguished Chapter,” based on the submitted chapter plan and annual report. The reports are judged on professional development, communications, fundraising, and community service. This honor acknowledges Texas State as one of the top eight chapters internationally. Texas State AMA also received 2nd place in the recruitment video competition and received honorable mention in the website competition. Texas State students were also asked to participate in several student led sessions. Texas State AMA’s President, Whitney Senters participated in a Presidential panel discussion that offered recommendations and suggestions to leading a successful AMA chapter. The Texas State chapter, represented by VP of Fundraising Andrew Duffy and VP of Finance Scriven Hoef, gave a presentation on insights and tips to a sustainable fundraising program. Over 150 AMA students and advisors attended each of the presentations.
AMA Spring Regional Conference
Texas State University- San Marcos AMA hosted our 2nd Annual Conference, “Marketing Through the Tough Times” on Friday, February 6th, 2009. The objective of our conference was to learn how marketing professionals take the necessary steps to adapt in order to succeed. We invited students from neighboring AMA chapters to attend our conference. Attendees included students from the University of Texas at Austin, St. Edwards University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Jean Conover, Marketing Director of Business Development for TradeMark Media, addressed the importance of digital marketing, technology innovation, and strategies on brand building. In addition, Steven Harper, a strategist in branding and author of “The Ripple Effect” discussed networking. Dr. Robert Davis, Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Business Programs at Texas State University-San Marcos discussed the value of graduate education. Finally, the Presidents of the chapters represented discussed how the economy is impacting their chapters and how AMA has benefited them personally. Overall, the conference was a success. Students gained insights from leaders in the industry, which will prove invaluable as they embark on their marketing careers.

New Orleans, LA April 3, 2008 - Members of the Texas State American Marketing Association attended the 30th Annual AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 3rd – 5th. The conference was designed to provide the ultimate marketing experience which included professional guest speakers, a career fair, and networking opportunities. The American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional associations for marketers and has over 38,000 members worldwide in every area of marketing. There are over 300 student AMA chapters from schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
For the third year of entering, Texas State was one of eight finalists from a field of fifty-six entries in the AMA Case Competition. This year’s client was McGraw-Hill, and the task was to develop a complete marketing campaign to help McGraw-Hill Higher Education develop and promote an online e-commerce portal to college students. At the meeting, each of the eight finalists made a formal presentation to the client who determined the final rankings. The Texas State Case Competition team was awarded second place. First place was awarded to the University of Pennsylvania.
The Texas State AMA chapter received many accolades during the conference. Based on the submitted chapter plan and annual report, Texas State was recognized as “Outstanding Chapter.” This honor acknowledges Texas State as one of the top sixteen chapters internationally.

The Texas State chapter was also recognized for receiving a $1000 community service grant from the American Marketing Association Foundation to increase students’ awareness of the United Way.
Texas State AMA Case Team Makes The Finals
The Texas State entry to the AMA Case Competition was selected as one of eight finalists. The task was to develop a complete marketing campaign to help McGraw-Hill Higher Education develop and promote an online e-commerce portal to college students. As finalists, the Texas State students will be presenting their case recommendations at the 30th Annual AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans April 3rd-6th. Students that participated include: Brett Neu, Andrew Hogan, Katie Lieser, Vivian Plasencia, Jessica Head, Morgan Gross, John Repa, Jennifer Jessen and Sarah Zomper. Congratulations on being finalists and good luck in New Orleans!
