THE EMMETT AND MIRIAM MCCOY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
MISSION
The McCoy College of Business Administration is a learning community dedicated to pursuing and sharing values, knowledge and skills that enable students to compete in a dynamic business environment. Serving primarily students from Texas, the McCoy College uses an applied approach focusing on creating a learning environment that places primary importance on teaching excellence complemented by intellectual contributions and supported by service.
VISION
The McCoy College of Business Administration will be recognized as a top public college of business in Texas and a national model for excellence in applied business education and research. We will be known for providing a learner-centered environment, valuing research and scholarly activity, and emphasizing the central importance of teaching and learning.
VALUES
The mission reflects the responsibility of the College to make the education of its students the focus of all activities and to create and continuously improve programs that add value to students’ educational experiences through relevance and quality. The foundation of the College is an enthusiastic, student-oriented faculty knowledgeable in their discipline through the pursuit of intellectual contributions, professional development, and business experience. They are active in academic, professional, and civic service, and they also mentor students and support student organizations.

STRATEGIC GOALS
The following goals give direction to the McCoy College of Business Administration mission, and recognize that scholarship and service support aid the primary focus of teaching and learning.
  1. Maintain AACSB standards and pursue separate accounting accreditation
  2. Develop a strong research culture while maintaining quality teaching
  3. Increase graduate student enrollment by providing innovative, market-driven programs
  4. Focus on Latin American business initiatives
  5. Foster business community relationships with primary emphasis on small and medium size businesses
  6. Provide an environment for our learning community that enhances and supports diversity
  7. Sustain a development program
  8. Support a dynamic student learning environment
UNDERGRADUATE LEARNING GOALS
In business organizations and situations, graduates of the college should be able to:
Conceptualize a complex issue into a coherent, persuasive written statement or oral presentation.
Graduates should understand the importance of effective communication in an organization.  They should be able to develop well-written, persuasive business reports, memos, and letters; to make effective oral presentations; and to explain and interpret findings and conclusions, justify a conclusion or recommendation, and organize ideas into a coherent train of thought. 
Acquire and use analytical tools and skills for evaluating information, solving problems, and making sound decisions.
Graduates should be able to carefully and logically analyze information, problems, and ideas from multiple perspectives.  These critical, reasoning, and reflective skills may be demonstrated by the ability of students to analyze complex issues and make informed decisions; synthesize information in order to arrive at reasoned conclusions; evaluate the logic, validity, and relevance of data; use knowledge and understanding to generate and explore new questions; solve challenging problems; and/or apply problem-solving techniques in domains other than those in which learned.
Acquire and use information technology skills in business decision-making.
Graduates should learn and know how to apply various software applications as a basic part of their working environment.  They should be able to understand the impact of information technology in various business contexts.
Acquire and use the skills needed for effective teamwork and understand the importance of group dynamics in achieving organizational goals.
Graduates should appreciate the need for effective group consultation and teamwork, within diverse and cross-functional environments, in accomplishing organizational goals.  They should develop the skills needed to work productively in organizational teams.
Recognize and apply general concepts of ethical behavior in dealing with various stakeholders.
Graduates should develop or enhance their ethical framework and respect the ethical foundations of diverse populations. They should be able to recognize when they face an ethical dilemma and to apply one of several evaluative frameworks to form a personal standard for dealing with the dilemma. 
Understand the importance of culture and diversity to organizations.
Graduates should comprehend the nature and significance of differences in individuals and groups based on their culture, ethnicity, religion, and other background factors.  They should understand the impact of globalism and multiculturalism on business organizations.
BACKGROUND:
Established in 1958, the College of Business Administration offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with majors in accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, management, and marketing.  The management major offers a teacher certification option.  The Certified Financial Planner, Computer Information Systems, and Latin American Business Certificate programs also are offered.  Additionally, the College cooperates with the College of Liberal Arts in offering the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a major in economics.  The BBA degree does not require a minor.  Non-business majors may choose business administration as their minor. 
At the graduate level, the College offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Master of Accountancy (MAcy) degrees. Business education at Texas State is accredited by AACSB International
