The Texas State University-San Marcos AITP (the Association of Information Technology Professionals) won its first ever SCOPA or Student Chapter Outstanding Performance Award for the 2007-2008 Academic year!
This award is earned by the student chapters of AITP that showcase their activities in the categories of Education, Membership, Public Relations, Meetings and Association Participation.  During 2007-2008, the Texas State University AITP student chapter really stepped up their level of engagement and activities:
  • Hosted the McCoy’s 2007 AITP Region 3 Student Conference wherein 280 Information Technology students from area universities,  colleges and high schools attended and competed in contest events
  • Affiliated with the San Antonio AITP professional chapter wherein Texas State’s own McCoy College faculty member Kevin Jetton continues to serve as the chapter President.  AITP student chapter members and faculty then started attending their meetings for additional IT professional networking and educational opportunities
  • Sent a total of 21 students and faculty to the 2008 AITP National Collegiate Conference in Memphis, Tennessee and received the event’s “Top Monkey” award for the highest level of participation and CIS major Ben Wallace received an Honorable Mention in the Systems Analysis & Design Contest
  • Participated in the Texas State University-San Marcos Bobcat Build dayGrew their membership by 33% from the prior year to 63 membersWas named the AITP Region 3 Top Chapter for the first quarter of 2008
  • Was recognized by the Texas State’s Campus Activities and StudentOrganizations as runner up for the Texas State Student Organization of the Year.
  • Joined the McCoy Advising Center’s McCoy Experience Advisory Team

The 2008-2009 year will be no different in that the organization is already planning their trip this fall to Angelo State University for the 2008 AITP Region 3 student conference as well as the 2009 AITP National Collegiate Conference and expect great things from the Texas State AITP student chapter this year.

Earning AITP’s SCOPA award puts it in the running for the Regional outstanding student chapter award designation which ultimately makes them a candidate for the overall AITP Outstanding Student Chapter of the year which will be announced at the 2009 AITP National Collegiate Conference next spring in Oklahoma City.
