The Texas State University-San Marcos SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise ) Team returned to San Marcos, Texas as winners after participating in the Dallas, Texas SIFE USA Regional Competition on April 4, 2007. The event was one of 27 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and April.
In addition to winning their regional competition for the tenth straight year, Texas State also took home top honors by being named a top 20 finalist for five of the six Individual Topic Competitions, which are: SIFE USA Discover Financial Services Success Skills Competition; SIFE USA Sam’s Club Entrepreneurship Competition; SIFE USA HSBC Financial Literacy Competition; SIFE USA Campbell’s Sealed Air Business Ethics Competition; and SIFE USA GE Consumer Products Program Sustainability Competition. The Texas State SIFE team was the top money winner at the Dallas Regional Competition.
SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that focus on: market economics, entrepreneurship; personal financial success skills, and business ethics. During this academic year, the Texas State SIFE team organized 48 projects based on these criteria.
A senior presentation team member, Phillip Moreno, had this to say, “We are pleased to continue our tradition of excellence in both the content portion of our program and the overall audio-visual presentation representing our program of work for the year.”
Texas State will represent the Dallas regional at the national competition to be held in May, also to be held in Dallas, Texas. The competition has historically been held in Kansas City, Mo. because of its centralized location, but now will move around to different cities in the central portion of the country. |
